AI Identification Disclaimer
Last updated: October 14, 2026
1. No guarantees
Leaf Identifier uses artificial intelligence to identify leaves and the plants they come from from photographs. We make no guarantees, representations, or warranties — express or implied — about the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of any identification, description, estimate, or other information produced or presented by the service, including our encyclopedia, reference pages, guides, and articles.
2. AI limitations
AI models can make mistakes, misinterpret visual features, or produce inaccurate results (commonly referred to as “hallucinations”). The AI may identify the wrong species, type, or item altogether, misstate characteristics, origin, history, or uses, or describe something that is not in the photo at all. Photographs alone are often insufficient to distinguish visually similar leaves and the plants they come from, and lighting, angle, focus, scale, and background all affect what the model can see.
3. Encyclopedia and reference content
Leaf Identifier’s encyclopedia, reference pages, guides, articles, and similar content are compiled and generated with the help of automated tools and AI models and are provided for general information only. They may contain errors, omissions, or outdated information, they have not been reviewed by qualified experts, and the images shown alongside them may be illustrative rather than exact matches. The same is true of any other information presented on Leaf Identifier, including identification results shared by other users. Do not rely on any of it for a decision that could affect your health, safety, property, legal rights, or finances. If you spot an error, please let us know at support@identifyleaf.com and we will review it.
4. User responsibility
You are solely responsible for how you use identification results and any other information on Leaf Identifier. Always verify important details independently — through a qualified botanist, arborist, or poison-control service, or through authoritative reference materials — before relying on them for any decision.
5. Not safety advice
Identifications must never be used to decide whether a plant or any part of it is safe to touch, eat, taste, brew, burn, or give to a child, pet, or livestock. Leaf Identifier does not provide edibility, toxicity, or medicinal information, and the absence of a warning never means a plant is safe.
Many plants are poisonous if eaten, and many toxic species closely resemble harmless or edible ones — the AI can confuse them. Some plants harm on contact: the sap and leaves of poison ivy, poison oak, and poison sumac cause severe skin reactions, giant hogweed and related plants can cause serious burns and blistering when their sap meets sunlight, and the pollen, sap, or hairs of many others trigger allergic reactions. Smoke from burning some plants can also be harmful to breathe.
Never eat, taste, brew, or use any plant as food, medicine, or a remedy — or feed it to a pet or livestock — based on an identification from Leaf Identifier or on any information presented here. If you suspect poisoning or a severe reaction, contact your local emergency number, a poison control center, or a physician (or a veterinarian for an animal) immediately.
6. Not professional advice
Nothing produced or presented by Leaf Identifier constitutes botanical certification, horticultural, arboricultural, or agricultural advice, medical, herbal, or veterinary advice, legal advice, or any other form of professional advice. Foraging, collecting, and removing plants may be restricted or prohibited by law, by park rules, or by the landowner, and some species are protected; you are responsible for knowing and following the rules that apply where you are.
7. User-provided information
Identifications may rely on photographs, notes, and location details submitted by users. We do not verify user-provided information, and results that depend on it may be affected by its accuracy.
8. Community content
Public identifications shared to the community feed, and shown on encyclopedia, tag, and search pages, are AI-generated content submitted by other users. They carry the same limitations described here and have not been reviewed by experts.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Leaf Identifier and its affiliates will not be liable for any loss or damage arising from reliance on AI-generated identifications, descriptions, or estimates, or on any encyclopedia, reference, or other content presented by the service, including financial loss, property damage, or personal injury.
10. Changes to this disclaimer
We may update this disclaimer from time to time. Continued use of the service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated disclaimer. By using Leaf Identifier, you acknowledge and accept these limitations.
